Artist Statement:
I consider myself an intuitive painter. Anchored in both memory and intuition, my work explores an instinctive and spontaneous approach to painting. My current works are all representations of flowers. With a fixed subject matter, I am liberated from distraction and can focus on representation in its purest form.
The genre of flower painting began with a bouquet painted by Jan Bruegel the Elder in the 1300s and continues to this day. It is this legacy and oversaturation within the history of art that creates a certain ambivalence or distance towards the subject, enabling me to explore the full dimensions of representation through an intuitive approach.
